Rousillon is a French wine region located in the southernmost part of the country, close to the border with Spain. The climate here is warm and sunny, which is ideal for growing grapes. The most common grape varieties in Rousillon are Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, these grapes are used to produce red, rosé, and white wines that are typically full-bodied and have high alcohol content. The wines of Rousillon are often described as being "powerful" and "spicy." To have these wines shine, make sure to serve them at the optimal serving temperature.
The history of viticulture in Rousillon dates to the Roman era. However, it was not until the Middle Ages that wine production began to take off in this region. In the 14th century, the French king Charles VI granted the region its own royal charter, which helped to promote its wines. In the 18th century, Rousillon was annexed by France and became part of the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region. Today, Rousillon is one of the most important wine regions in France.
